STUDENT RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT AWARDS

This award program provides students with the experience of organizing and submitting a proposal for funding support and provides a vehicle with which students can competitively secure funding that may be used either to supplement ongoing scientific work or to support a stand-alone project.

Awards-
Up to six awards (maximum of $1000.00 each) in the doctoral category and up to six awards (maximum of $500.00) in the master's category will be made each year to provide financial support to eligible students.

Eligibility Requirements-
1) Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment into a graduate program at an accredited university in the state of Texas in the areas of basic, applied or clinical exercise science, or sports medicine.
2) Must be a member in good standing of TACSM.
3) Must be present at the TACSM Annual Meeting.

Submission Deadline-

January 20, 2012

Submission & Review Process-
Download your application here.  Applicants may submit only one application and can receive only one award per year.  The TACSM Research Support Committee will review all award applications and make funding recommendations to the Board of Directors.  Awards will be announced at the Annual Meeting.  Submit your application as one single PDF file (do not submit multiple files) to C.M. Hearon, PhD, FACSM, TACSM Executive Director.

Further Obligations-
2012 SRDA recipients will be expected to provide a brief status report for their funded project as a part of the 2013 TACSM Annual Meeting program.

NOTE:  TACSM will not cut checks to award recipients until the student submits a copy of his/her IRB approval for the proposed research project.  Additionally, TACSM must issue 1099 forms for all payments to students of $600 or more, so student award winners will be expected to report this income to the IRS if the award checks are made out to them.  Or, if the student prefers, TACSM can have the award checks made out to the student’s University.  For this to happen, a faculty member at that institution must pre-authorize this and TACSM should be informed prior to the annual meeting.
